Overview
InDesign, grid systems, layout, printing and production
I'm a part of three student-run publications at Miami University. I collaborate with the writers, directors, and photographers of these organizations to help bring their stories to life using design.
Check out my work from UP Magazine, The Miami Student Newspaper, and The Miami Student Magazine!
UP Magazine

September 2025–Present
Semesterly publication
UP is a lifestyle magazine seeks to amplify student voices through storytelling, design, and exploration of culture, identity, and creativity. I'm a designer on the layout team and created 8 pages for the most recent issue, TRANSCEND.
Story #1 "Stitched in Time"
In this story, the author brought together three stories about pieces of clothing that help people connect to important memories.
Because I knew photographic elements were going to be pretty simple, I wanted to put a lot of time into the title graphic. I used some scrap fabric to cut each stitch all of the letters, which I then edited in photoshop to match the magazine color palette. I added some strands of thread to reinforce the "stitching" motif and make the layout feel more cohesive.

Story #2 "The Network Effect"
The author for this story wanted to highlight different business fraternities on campus, incorporating interviews from current students.
My idea for this story was to use simple intersecting line designs to communicate the feeling of a "network" while letting the photography and models take center stage.

The Miami Student Newspaper

February 2024–Present
Printed newspaper every 2 weeks
I do both graphics and layout for The Miami Student. As a member of the design team, I attend weekly meetings to brainstorm graphics ideas using the writers' budget lines. I also lay out spreads for the newspaper on biweekly print nights.
Here is a spread I did for a November 2025 paper, as well as some graphics I've created for articles.

The Miami Student Magazine

September 2025–Present
Semesterly publication
TMSM is an offshoot of the newspaper with a smaller team of writers and designers. Each designer is paired with a writer and works closely with them to enhance their story through graphics and typography.
The story I worked on this semester was titled "Leaving Things Unsaid." In this story, the writer really wanted to emphasize "the power that silence holds, and how people come to the decision to hold back and why."

I thought about communicating the decision to stay silent through a series of scenes: someone writing a letter, becoming frustrated, and eventually crumbling up the paper. I was drawn to simple typographic treatments that made it feel like the lines of text were falling or being pushed apart.
I created most of the imagery using notebook paper and a blue pen. I scanned and edited my handwriting in Photoshop to clean it up for the design.

As a final touch, I got the signature from the author to enhance the handwriting motif make the story feel more personal. Here are the final layouts!
During the release party, I learned that my story design was chosen as the theme for this issue! The creative directors used my assets and color scheme for the cover and several other spreads throughout the magazine.
It was super cool to see how my motifs were used to develop a guiding visual style for this magazine. They also created stickers from some of my assets!
